Join us for a talk on the history of sound poetry with Jaap Blonk!

Blonk discusses his work in sound poetry, placing it in the international, historical context of literature, art and music. He'll perform from historic works of sound poetry and give an illustrated tour of the history with projected images. We'll also see images of Blonk's own sound poetry scores. Q&A to follow!

Jaap Blonk is a performer, poet and composer based in the Netherlands. Specialized in the practice of sound poetry, he is one of the world’s leading practitioners of the art form. As a vocalist, Blonk is renowned for his masterful execution of complex arrangements, powerful stage presence and deft improvisational skill. In performance, his programmatic, and often whimsical, tours of the sound poetry oeuvre feature classics from Hugo Ball, Kurt Schwitters and John Cage as well as his own work in invented languages and exposition of electro-phonetic soundscapes.
